I couldn't help but draw a parallel between this poor customer and my current circumstance. I also decided this isn't the kind of place where I would want to eat food that I had returned to the kitchen. When the breadsticks were returned to me, they had indeed been cooked all the way through. However, I wasn't going to eat them. I wasn't offered them taken off of my bill, nor did I expect it after listening to the previous customer complaint. I asked for my check and went to The Copper Bar which turned out to be a good experience and my faith in Terre Haute restored.
Well after I decided what I wanted from the menu, and nearly to the end of my first beer, the bartender made another appearance. By this point, two more people wandered in and took a seat at the bar. However, this would be my only company at Ballyhoo for the rest of the night. An older gentleman whose son works at Ballyhoo, and a young fellow who doesn't like to stretch while working out. I'm not sure why he told us this, but it wasn't the first, or the last weird conversation of the night.
Got there at about 5 for an event that was to start at 4. Jim Smith and I first bikers there...manager gave us a free pizza and free 1rd of beers. GREAT pizza, better than any thing available in Greencastle...really good tall Yuengling beer and great conversation with Jim. Turns out we worked at the same places at different times and knew a lot of the same ppl. Anyhoo Ballyhoo's is a great place for beer and
The atmosphere is great! Friendly bartenders, good food, and good drinks. The DJ on Thursday nights really gets the crowd in to the music.
During this time to myself, I decided to finish my pizza. By the way, if you like Totino's pizza, you'll love Ballyhoo's pizza! It's like a gourmet version of the frozen classic with tiny little chopped pepperoni and I assume the sausage was in there as well. During one of the cameo appearances of our bartender, I got his attention and brought up the cold breadsticks. He disappeared back to the kitchen to have them recooked.
This place was friendly. Typical bar food. I was there on a Thursday afternoon so I can't accurately judge this place. The service could have been more attentive. I didn't want to appear to be high maintenance when I made a request for silverware or napkins. However, during lunch the staff neglected to check to see if I had basic utensils. The personality of the staff was welcoming.
I walked in around 7:30 and I was the only one there. The ONLY one there, not even a bartender! After a few minutes, a guy walked out from the kitchen and apologized that they were swamped in back. Confused that an empty bar could be swamped in the kitchen, I let that comment go and got a beer and a menu. Before leaving back to the kitchen, the bartender asked if I wanted another beer after just delivering my first. I figured I wasn't going to see him again for a while so I thought, sure I'll have a second round right now.
I ordered the stuffed breadsticks for an appetizer and a 10" sausage & pepperoni pizza. The pizza came out first and about 5" later, the breadsticks were delivered. Surely, the extra time was needed to cook the stuffed breadsticks through, right? Wrong! Cold cheese in the middle like pulling a pack of string cheese from the refrigerator. I looked up to let the bartender know about the mishap, but I forgot how busy the kitchen was.
During my wait, our bartender was talking to the father of his fellow employee, when suddenly, there was the sound of a phone ringing. This is also where my two to three star rating dropped to a one. After taking the call and returning to the bar, our host began telling us about the customer whose pizza they just delivered. Apparently, the pizza was delivered cold and the customer called to complain and possibly get a refund. Our bartender joked, and I paraphrase, that of course the pizza is cold, it's 8 degrees outside! Maybe you should try throwing it in the microwave b****!
Thursday night after Xmas, so I wasn't expecting much. However, Ballyhoo couldn't even meet my low expectations.
One of the top pizza places in town. The drink specials are good and fairly affordable. It's aGreat place to go grab dinner and a drink before ISU basketball games.
