Needless to say Peterson Distributing was a mobile sweat shop in vans, that rarely ever paid their field employees unless you stuck it out for the long haul (2 to 3 months I was told by one of the veteran salesman, that was a 22 year old who was sold in the idea of working that long without out pay) & became buddies with the owner.
Worked there for one month and if I could give this place a negative rating I would... the "owner" Jim walks into the morning meetings smelling of booze. He then criticizes everyone for what they're not doing or complaining that they're not making any sales. Not to mention the job is solely on commission. The suggested price of a vacuum cleaner from Kirby is 1779 I believe. Check the side of your box if you purchased one because he charges 2300 to start, then teaches his salesmen to go down to the bottom dollar. I sold a set for 900 bucks and have seen them go lower. Kirby pays out bonuses but don't rely on Jim to pay you what you're owed. He makes all his decisions off emotion, not logic. He treats his employees like dirt. Everyone has quit on him. But the job is you go around trying to sell vacuum cleaners by offering free gifts to do a free cleaning on someone's carpet who's not going to buy 95 percent of the time. Not to mention spending money on your gas to drive around. You're labeled as an independent contractor so when your not making any money you'll still owe taxes at the end of the year. And btw, the other reviews on google are from his friends and business partners.
Don't work here. Unless you just want the "experience"
Turn over is high at Peterson Distributing do to long hours, unpaid training, no schedule callsthey are all cold calls, and lack of actually paying their employees.
Great Place to work very relaxed and easy going people. Love the open and friendly environment.
I worked in the field for one week, 18 hours a day on average with a group in a van in which they faired around the employees to small towns in southern Indiana that I didn't know even know existed. I never got my flat fee pay. And I averaged 5 demos a day. And I sold one vacuum the whole time, & never was paid the Commission I was owed for that sale.
I was told in training that all demos were scheduled, with few cold calls. And cold calls would be taken care of by a "specialist" that would be with you & get you in the door of the customer for the demo. The van group I was in had one specialist, & she only did her job occasionally (about once or twice a day), the rest of the time she was trying to make sales herself, because she got bonus if she made sales also. There also was no scheduled demos.
You where supposed to be paid a flat fee of $200 weekly at that time if you got 3 demos in each day for that work week of 5 days a week, at that time, rather or not the customer bought anything. If the customer bought a Kirby, you would would get a commission percentage.
I worked there in 2005 for three weeks. Two weeks of unpaid training (in which you worked the weekend in between the two weeks of training "as part of your training", in which you got "paid" for training if you didn't 3 demos if their Kirby vacuum cleaner. And if you did all 3 demos you still didn't get paid for training. I was literally told I was paid and experience & thanked for doing the demos, when I inquired about my pay for the three demos during training).
Great place to work!!!
All & all the product was waaaay over priced (a Kirby vacuum cleaner), but that is in all fairness not Peterson Distributing's fault, it's the Kirby company's self absorbed opinion of their products. However the Kirby is a great vacuum, but not $2000 great.
I have to say James Pitrowski Jr is 100% correct in his review. I worked there for a total of 2 weeks and have never been so rudely treated. Not only was I illproperly trained when i would try to set up appointments and have to call them back later someone would steal my appointments. Mind you if you dont make so many appointments he'll talk down to and belittle you. So when he confronted me about it he accused me of "CLOCK ROBBING" him. Not only is this the most insulting thing ive ever heard but if i do recall when i signed my paperwork i signed in on $8 at 40 hrs a week but after 2 weeks i worked a total of 25 hours... the mans a snake... You really shouldn't trust this man.
